I wasn't following it really closely, but what I did see tended to suggest she was crackers. Anybody else watch more of it?

I am so glad to see that.

What a travesty it would have been if she had been found not guilty by reason of insanity. She is indeed mentally ill....but aren't serial killers by definition? That's what I consider her.

Alan,

I am really torn by this case.

Do I believe there are circumstances in which the insanity defense is valid and reasonable? Of course I do. But unfortunately, every damn opportunistic lawyer on the face of this planet is using this defense as the easy ticket out. And the public backlash has been to assume that all insanity pleas are unwarranted.

Do I believe post-partum depression can be severe enough to cause delusions and impair judgment resulting in such a heinous crime? Yes. The question is how to reconcile psychiatry and illness with the law?

I would find it totally distasteful to sentence a woman to death for committing a crime while she may have been mentally impaired. I know the jury ruled otherwise and I'm sure I'll receive some flack for submitting this opinion.

This is such a strange world we live in....
