in my opinion that is a shame. by the way, america is not all about "world economic output". that is part of what ails this country. people place far too much emphasis on running the united states like a corporation, as if the only thing that mattered was the bottom line. that's not what made this country great.

I agree entirely on that point. One of my greatest American Heros is Joshua Slocum (a sailor). He mentioned a few points on the same matter. He represents American trading interests at it's best imho. I am happy to have a copy of his "Voyage of the Liberdade" in addition to his more famous "Sailing alone around the world".

Also true imho. Japan was supported to the hilt to survive, as many other countries. USA played an important role in world recovery after WW2 and WW1.
