MOre Good news UMC Forecasts Second-Quarter Factory-Use Rate to Exceed 70% By Iain Pocock quote.bloomberg.com Taipei, March 13 (Bloomberg) -- United Microelectronics Corp., the second-largest maker of chips for other companies, expects its factory-use rate for the second quarter to exceed 70 percent, which may grow further in the third quarter, Vice Chairman Peter Chang said. The company forecasted a factory-use rate of as much as 60 percent for the first quarter compared 45 percent in the previous three months. ``We're seeing demand picking up in two areas: the consumer area and the other area is wireless communications,'' Chang said at an Asia-Pacific technology conference.
