Ah, I thought you meant Berwick.
Carlisle has always been defiantly English. Although the one friend I had from there had a good, standard "Souvern" accent, with just a few vaguely Geordie hints.
Good pubs there, too, and lovely architecture (in the centre anyway).

People rarely say they're British now, which is something of a shame. (Note that it pontedly omits NI, too...). The only exception is in citizenship, not that we're citizens as such.
