Ted peace comes when one side or the other or both think they can't win so they settle for what they can get [or when one side is totally defeated].

The behavior of the N. Irish Caths. and the Palestinians would indicate otherwise; the N. Irish have been going at it for nearly 40 years and the Palestinians for nearly 50 years. Surely neither can expect to win but yet neither will back down from their position.

There are times when commitment to an often times abstract cause over rides reasonable behavior. I also fear that the participants have begun to accept that conflict, strife, death and anguish are the norm and therefore, have become acceptable.

In many ways the peace process can increase the violence and death.

That's an oxymoron......it can't be a peace process if its leading to an increase in deaths.

It gives the Palestinians hope that they can get what they want and it causes the Palestinian leaders to play games with causing or encouraging violence to try to push Israel on one or two issues.

Actually, I think the problem is that the Palestinians do not want the Israelis in the Middle East and that the disparity in wealth and well being between the two groups acts to inflame their position. I also think that Palestinians have too much time on their hands..........high unemployment fuels the conflict. Further, this conflict has become the norm.......there are now whole generations who know nothing else. The conflict has become an end in itself.
