Well, another 4 hours might be needed "no kill(er)ing application, but as close as one can get",
freely quoted, probably Savander.

Additionally he also tried his best to point out "how money is moved from other cash flows
to go though mobile phones", more efficiently and for less cost.

Additionally he made some good comments on the underlying mechanisms of MMS messages,
something supported by many social studies, as well as the Angry Child.

Ilmarinen

Hmm, maybe Q should hook up with Discovery Channel, they try to run these jokes on old
cultures and urban myths, maybe there will be a market for the "week of the predator CDMA handset",
History Channel could add something like "Early handset eating tribes and babes, in CA"

Cax,

<< Nokia and MMS - After listening to the Nok presentation for nearly four hours, >>

You get a prize for that.

It makes you 3 hours and fifty-five minutes more informed than the average Qualcomm, Nokia commentator.

I'm wondering what you thought of the last presentation on OMA? I thought it was excellent and I really liked the MMS "network effect" example.

<< the good thing I see from Nokia is their emphasis on MMS (sending pictures taken with phone). >>

From what I can tell, Nokia has been the primary driver of MMS ... from market research, to R&D, through standardization (they declared the original 'R99' spec essentially unworkable so drove revision through 'R4') through implementation and code (which they are opening up).

Sony Ericcson right behind them and have already released MMS upgrade software for the T68i.

I don't know if you have seen the 68 page Word document on GPRS Features & Services implementation referenced here ... but if you can sit through 4 hours of Nokia ya might want to give it a read:

Message 17125194

Ideally the US 1xRTT carriers would all run on a similar roadmap. One of the distinguishing characteristics between GSM & CDMA has always been their spirit of coopetition and uniform implementaion of services.

<< It appears that Nokia see's this as a killer app for new phones. >>

It appears the carriers do as well.

It is being talked up as "The" initial killer app. Time will tell, but it well could be.

<< I can only hope that the cdma crowd is working as hard to get this feature out in time for the 1X launches. >>

It won't make it for launches. It is in early phase of standardization in 3GPP2. EMS along 3GPP lines was standadized in Release A driven by Verizon and over Qualcomm objections.

Last I looked 3GPP2 was trying to determine to what degree 3GPP2 MMS would be interoperable with the 3GPP version. IMO the more interoperable they make it, the better off they are.

However ... Sprint PCS is working an imaging solution with LightSurf. It may be ready for launch.

<< In the Robbie Stephens investor conf a few weeks ago they said (I can't read me own notes well, sorry so this may not be quite right) but they expect something like 7.5 Billion SMS's in 02 to be sent. >>

1 Billion SMS messages are being sent daily (30 Bil per month) and that is still on the hockey stick increase wise.

<< If MMSing catches on and is easy, there is definitely money to be made. >>

Definitely.

MMS Marketing Forum research indicates that consumers would be willing to pay 5x SMS tarriff for MMS.

If the messaging platforms are in place by Thanksgiving, Q4 could be a winner.

Ahhm look ... LongLostLakers (Honorary Nokia Thread Technical Guru) just checked in.
