Zionism started as a Jewish theological movement to fulfill the rabbinical dreams to restore a Jewish commonwealth in the land of Palestine! Israel is, in essence, a Jewish theocracy. It was created from the beginning as a JEWISH STATE where Jews wanted a Jewish religious majority. The present Zionist leadership continues to push the Jewish religious vision of Zionism. They absolutely demand that Israel remain a Jewish State, not a secular democratic and multicultural state. The central fear and objection of the Zionists to the repatriation of the ethnically cleansed Palestinians refugees is the fact that Israel's demographics would drastically change and become multicultural, pluralistic, in other words, DEMOCRATIC where Palestinians Christians and Moslems would have equal civil rights. The Israel JEWISH TRUST where 90% of Israel's land is set aside for the exclusive use of Jews would have to be abolished under a democratic state. Zionism is and always has been a religious or theological concept!
