I think you're wrong that management will always sell the company if they think it is in the best interest of shareholders. Sometimes that is correct, other times management enjoys running ths show and wants to keep their control and independence, even if being under the wing of a larger corporation may be better for shareholders. I don't know CIEN management, so I don't know what their thoughts are on the subject.

And I didn't know Cisco rejected CIEN as an acquisition candidate. Since CSCO wants to get bigger in telecom and CIEN has all next generation products CIEN seems like a great fit. Like I said, similar to the Stratacom acquisition of the mid-'90's.
