Since when did Neville Chamberlain qualify as a despot

I regard Neville Chamberlain and the "Peace Movement" politicians of Britain and the USA as OK guys. They did there job as they saw it. The voting public did not want another war after the experience of WW1 and they did their bit as best they could.

It's a bit like the USA civil war "defeat" at Monocacy

Lewis "Lew" Wallace was utterly defeated, yet Grant later said from such a defeat a major battle was won.

It was the invasion of Poland and the Pearl Harbor attack that changed things. Then peaceful people knew that they had to change and fight a war once again.... terrible though that would be.

War is such a terrible thing. It was good that all avenues of peace were explored. Then once that was shown to be hopeless, then the hard business of war is begun.
