eco,

This board seems to be exhibiting some clinical signs of a bipolar disorder.

I can't tell about others, but news like this helps my mental state: vr-zone.com

CeBIT : AMD Thoroughbred 2800+

AMD has showcased their upcoming 0.13 micron Athlon XP 2800+ (2.2Ghz) processor codename "Thoroughbred". The "Thoroughbred" core is 80mm2 which is approximately 38% smaller than its 0.18 micron Athlon XP. The VCore voltage will operated at 1.65V instead.

< edit >It looks like AMD is sticking with the 66 MegaHertz = 100 QuantiHertz < /edit >

Eco, Re: Earlier today I read on Ace's board (uncomfirmed - we'll find out when JC does his next update) that Pally prices have dropped precipitously in the last week.

What do you mean by saying "unconfirmed"? Just have a look at Pricewatch:

CPU Lowest Price Change to previous week (04/03)

Athlon XP 2100+ $294 n/a
Athlon XP 2000+ $213 -$22
Athlon XP 1900+ $160 -$21
Athlon XP 1800+ $124 -$9

That has nothing to do with Thoroughbred IMO it just means that the next official price cut (most probably scheduled for April, 2nd) is already getting factored in in Pricewatch pricing due to gray market activity from OEMs. However, with good availability for the XP2100+ (so far 24 entries), ASP could stay pretty flat overall. Things could get ugly however at the end of May when Intel will slash e.g. the price of 2.0 GHz P4 by nearly 50% and AMD's highest offering will be an XP2200+ at best.
