Oh, everyone had plenty of warning about Hitler... he'd even written up the general idea in 1926.

But Britain and France behaved shamefully towards the Czechs, agreed. They were completely let down, both powers reneged on their promise because they hadn't stayed armed.
(My knowledge lacks - was the US not a guarantor? They were certainly at Versailles).
