On SUVs: yes, there are a lot of people who have SUVs who don't need them. I happen to have four young kids, and hauling them around means having an SUV. The problem is not just SUVs, it is the auto industry in general. My SUV gets 12 mpg in the city but seats 8 (yielding 96 'pmpg'). A new VW beetle barely seats 2 and gets 22 mpg. If we are to really reduce our reliance on oil, we need to invest in alternate energy sources, and not rely on drilling in our nation's national parks.
