The killers call themselves "martyrs," but in their own minds they are the next thing to sex criminals. "Pardon me, sir or madam, do you know why I plan to murder your child? Because the authorities are offering me great sex--and, after all, I don't get many opportunities."

Interesting way of phrasing that...

Btw, I have to believe Zinni is over there to set the stage for moving towards a Palestinian state.. I think the momentum in the Bush administration is pushing for it (more than would seem obvious from the media) as a way of appeasing Arab minds.

That's going to mean probably forcing the settlements to be removed, which Israel isn't going to do unless they have security guarantees (like the PA actually establishing order on the West Bank and controlling their extremist groups).

The US will probably have to pay for this peace, just as we've had to between Egypt and Israel, but hopefully cash will sooth some bruised egos on both sides, and ease Israeli qualms. I also have to believe that peacekeeping forces will be required to keep the parties separate, since we know the extremists are more interested in destroying Israel than they are with creating a Palestinian state.

It will be a nice attempt, but it's going to take both the US placing pressure on Israel, and Saudi Arabia and others putting pressure on Arafat.

I'm sure the Israeli extremists can probably be contained, but there will likely be some ugly scenes of resistance as they are removed from their settlements . But you and I know the Palestinian extremists are a force of their own, vying for power and control over the region with Arafat. He isn't going to be able to control them over time.

They'll just think of some other excuse to wage war against the Zionists.
