Btw, I have to believe Zinni is over there to set the stage for moving towards a Palestinian state.. I think the momentum in the Bush administration is pushing for it

I'm more cynical, I think the Bush administration is pushing for the appearance of talks aimed at a Palestinian state, no more.

That's going to mean probably forcing the settlements to be removed, which Israel isn't going to do unless they have security guarantees (like the PA actually establishing order on the West Bank and controlling their extremist groups).

The US will probably have to pay for this peace, just as we've had to between Egypt and Israel, but hopefully cash will sooth some bruised egos on both sides, and ease Israeli qualms.

Been there, tried that. Security guarantees? From the PA? is that a joke? if so, it's not very funny. The PA is not even able to sell security after the manner of Al Capone. You think the US didn't offer both sides billions at Camp David and Taba?

But you and I know the Palestinian extremists are a force of their own, vying for power and control over the region with Arafat. He isn't going to be able to control them over time. They'll just think of some other excuse to wage war against the Zionists

Sure they will. Like Hezbollah in Lebanon.

King Abdullah said something interesting today. He said, there are no Palestinians who can make peace with Israel, it's up the Arab world. As long as our friends the Saudis demand peace with one face and fund the PLO and Hamas with the other face, there will be no peace.

Hawk, thought this might interest you, since you had posted something on this subject:

Evidence That Arabs Shot 12-Year-old Muhammad
Germany's first television station will broadcast a documentary movie tomorrow night which casts doubt on the Palestinian version of the death of 12-year-old Muhammad A-Dura in Gaza at the beginning of the Oslo War. The PA capitalized on the footage of the death of the boy cowering behind his father as an example of Israeli aggression - and the possibility that the fatal shots might actually have been fired by Arabs, as claimed by many Israelis, was essentially ignored. The film to be screened tomorrow, however, shows much evidence that Arabs might have killed the boy, including the angle of fire, the duration of the shots, the force with which the bullets penetrated the wall behind the boy, and the precision of the shots.

Hawkmoon, I see you visualize forcible removal of "Jews" from settlements inside the West Bank, do you also see "forcible removal" of "Muslims" from settlements within the "pre 1967" Israeli territories?
