It is very unfortunate. I realize that there are good as well as bad Muslims, but as you say, where is the compassion? Where is the outrage from the Muslim community? Until average Muslims demands that the hateful teachings of their self anointed leaders end, and they join the 21st century, the threat remains. I wonder how the hateful teachings can end when their holy book directs them otherwise in parts of it's scripture? The excuse that all holy books advocate hate in some of their passages is no excuse. Modern western man has been able to rise above biblical scripture that doesn't take the health of the entire community into consideration. Muslims haven't been able to do that, or so it seems. The violence is acceptable to too many Muslims. This is just how it appears to me. M

Countries run by dictators/Kings/Sultans/Mullahs have unique problems. Despots are not run out of office by social failures. Neither can they easily abdicate and remain in country (or alive). Instead they control the oppressed by controlling the press and feeding them a story of who their oppressors are and letting them rage out of country. They are an accomplice by funding and implicitly sympathetic by lack of criticism. None of this is overt but I think we understand the thinking. They care little about Israel or the Palestinians except if their natives get restless and affect the stability of their regime. The decline of their countries is witness to their corruption, not ours. I think much of our posturing about evil and nuclear weaponry is meant to get the rest of the world's attention and their interest and cooperation in getting rid of terrorism. If they are not interested in "getting pregnant" about this, if they have no motivation to share the responsibility, then we will have to have alternate plans.
