Of course it is totally accurate as it is a verbatim reproduction.

What you failed to realize is that I did not use the world "ALL". Instead I used words like "some", "a good many" etc.

But you overgeneralized, and mistakenly thought I had used used "ALL" when I didn't, and therein lay the root of the misunderstanding.

You also failed to understand that when I said the war followed on the heels of the free-love hippie era etc.,

I was merely trying to say that love and peace was still in the psyche of many a young American. Yea, love and peace was in the air! And so many people were not in favor of fighting or were unwilling to fight.

I did not imply that when young American males were in Vietnam they continued to indulge in their former deprave and hippie ways etc.

In case an apparently nice/innocent (probably very Christian) and cleanly brought up guy like you didn't know, in any war, soldiers often went screwing and raping and even killing women. It has been that way since time immemorial. So, when I mentioned that GIs went to town to make babies etc., I was not specifically faulting the American soldiers. Actually I was a bit flippant. Well, mother nature was not to be denied!!! In the not so distant past, many men knew who their mothers were but not who their fathers were! Simply because those fathers came at night and were gone in the morning! Maybe this was one of Nature's ways to mix up the gene pool of mankind a bit.

Terry, I didn't deliberately mean to cause you pain in any way. Maybe I was a bit insensitive to the anguish and guilt and self-doubt that still torment many a veteran today. All I can say is what is done is done and it is time to carry on with one's life. Yea, exorcize the demons of the past! I maintain my comments were basically correct. But it was unfortunate I was misunderstood, in parts, or so it seems.
