For the 1st stepping to be cranking out those numbers. It's very nice. You seem to think AMD won't be able to improve on that?

We've not seen Sledge Numbers yet, Nor CH MP systems for that matter.

PS. Case in Point AMD’s Thunderbird core is a perfect example of what can happen with a little TLC. Just when it appeared to max out at 1.2GHz, AXIA Thunderbird chips arrived on the scene clocking in at 1.4GHz+! firingsquad.gamers.com

Charles Re..milo, 20-25% is not enough unless it scales to 3Ghz in .13. AMD cannot get design wins from Intel unless the performance of its CPUS is clearly way ahead. <<<<<<<<<<<

It depends upon what you mean by design wins; Dell, and nobody but Dell counts. AMD has been picking up market share throughout 2001. All AMD needs to do to maintain momentum is to match Intel in performance at a cheaper price. If you are talking about getting to a 4-1 sales ratio in AMD favor, then I would agree that AMD will need a lot more than a 15% performance advantage at a even price. However, the tide is shifting slowly towards AMD and will continue to do so, slowly, even with Hammer, unless or until Intel can come up with a equal performance processor at an even price. Right now, AMD is 5% behind in performance, xp2100 vs P4 2200, at a 40% discount, and has been able to hold market share; and according to Jerry, break even in profits. With Hammer equalling or besting P4 in performance, AMD should be able to raise ASPs to close the differential.
