Re: do you know if the hammers are supposed to start at 1 G? And if not, at what level?

No one who actually knows will be posting the information on a discussion group thread.

But... 10 stage pipeline, Bulk silicon thoroughbred will be running at about 2.2GHZ (2600+) in Q4. My WAG is that 12 stage pipeline, SOI hammer will probably debut at 2.0GHZ and 2.2GHZ (3100+ and 3400+ given the expected high IPC) and move fairly rapidly to 3GHZ (4400+) before the end of next year.

Dan, check out a two part article re Itanium vs the Hammers and Intel vs AMD that I posted on the old AMD thread. It was written by a guy from TSC who is usually pretty knowledgeable. However, Tenchusatsu is challenging some of the statements he makes. My tech background is pretty lame so its hard to argue in this guy's defense. In any case, its worth the read.

Dan, if we apply the rule of thumb of 30-50% increase for the shrink to .09 then intel should get to 3.9 to 4.5Ghz with the P4 at .09 ( and have 1Mb Cache ) so a hammer at 3Ghz doesn't sound too impressive.
