My prediction from long time ago, (probably a year or more) was that Intel will force AMD to increase die sizes in order to place a cap on AMD production, and therefore on the potential market share AMD could gain.

One part was proven to be true (Intel moving to bigger L2s), but so far, AMD has not responed. In fact, AMD is boasting about small die sizes. Something does not add up here (at least for 2002)


Since when has Intel NOT added cache when moving a denser process? In fact, the move from 256K to 512K L2 was completely consistent with past practice, and does not provide any support for your "big die" theory.
