How do you think a merger will affect AMD's chances of getting a Hammer design win?

Pravin,

If this merger goes through, I am beginning to think that Dell may be the first large PC OEM to offer a Hammer server. A Linux based server for European release only, of course.

Why Dell, and why if HP and Compaq do it? Dell typically relies on Intel primarily, and a few other companies like Serverworks perhaps, to furnish just about all of their key server hardware except storage. I think Dell is going with the 870 chipset along with McKinley (too bad Tenchusatsu bailed from here). In other words, they do little R&D, maybe some motherboards, relying on Intel more than any other big OEM. Why would they go over to an unproven server chip and infrastructure provider like AMD now, even for a single model, even for Europe?

Note that I don't doubt the Hammers will exhibit excellent performance (just have doubts on schedules).
