Cyberken,

Look at the bright side, with deep, prolonged deflation, the government can "adjust" its retirement and SS liability (make the COLAs run backward); and give retirees smaller and smaller benefits and checks-with no loss in "real" benefits. : )

As Gilder points out, this idea that there's any economic difference between "Liberals" and "Conservatives" in practice behind the Beltway is proven nonsense.

Republicans and Democrats are both in favor of extortionate taxation to support the massive political infrastructure. The popular rhetoric is to make the public believe there is a difference among them. It makes for good theater.

There is no way you will ever get any Republican to actually (a)cut taxes AND (b)cut government spending at the same time. It's all talk. With Reagan we got more debt than anytime in history. With Bush I we got more debt. With this Bush we'll have a few trillion more.

There are excuses with every administration. The fact is we consistently rack up more debt and less economic development under Republicans, if anything.
