There are so few pristine areas remaining on the earth, why not let it be?

There are lots of pristine areas. Importantly, 1) we need the oil; and 2) drilling for oil doesn't cause the damage and disruption that ecoterrorists allege.

Ann Corrigan, Recently, I saw an article about the ANWAR and the road they are building through it. Scientists, and many ecologists, have determined that the road will cause much more damage to the area than the drilling for oil. The drilling for oil can be controlled, and the drillers forced to clean up after themselves, as the strip miners were force to do, but there is not much anyone can do about the destruction of an area by tourists, and other travelers. They will spoil the land much faster than drilling.

When you say "The priority" you doubtless mean the Federal Government's priority. In otherwords our government should solve our problem.

A. It's not their job.

B. You are talking about reengineering a vast swath of the American economy. And you want to give this job to the folks who approve flight training for terrorists, and can't master the fundamentals of bookkeeping?

Where does this faith in the ability of bureaucrats come from? It honestly mystifies me.

The priority should be on developing alternative energy sources since that is the road to total independence for U.S.

<<The priority should be on developing alternative energy sources since that is the road to total independence for U.S. >>

President Bush has come out in favor of new clean burning coal plants and fuel cell technology so we could use hydrogen to power our vehicles.

<<There are so few pristine areas remaining on the earth, why not let it be?>>

The part of ANWAR that would be used for drilling ia about the same area that a mailbox takes up in the average yard. It's also the part of ANWAR that is a frozen mud plain. No animals or trees there.
