I think the west would throw up their hands in total disgust and say "screw em" and "Israel, we misjudged...whack em". Seriously, consider the PA behavior to date. "The West" is still decorously averting its eyes from the obvious fact that Arafat is ordering and directing most of the terror, which is being performed by organizations on his payroll, and giving aid and approval to the Islamist organizations not under his direct control. If they haven't thrown up their hands yet, what makes you think they would in this situation, particularly as the PLO would do everything in its power to to arrange for the Israelis to shoot the Americans by accident. Can you say, more charges of "Israeli excessive force"? Besides, Bush, Cheney and the CIA have no more illusions about Arafat and the PLO. They are bowing (foolishly imho) to pressure from our so-called Arab allies. This pressure would still be operative with American peacekeepers on the ground.
