7:01AM PeopleSoft: WSJ rehashes concerns about Momentum unit (PSFT) 36.05: The Wall Street Journal reports on PeopleSoft's relationship with Momentum Business Applications. The story raises many of the same points as a San Jose Mercury article in January: According to the WSJ, PeopleSoft took a $177 mln charge in Q1 of 1999 to capitalize Momentum, with Momentum using the money to hire PeopleSoft software developers, allowing PSFT to push R&D costs off its books. One new point raised in the WSJ article is now that PSFT has decided to repurchase Momentum, some analysts and investors are debating whether PSFT can continue to develop new software programs and grow significantly without squeezing its earnings and margins.
