enigma, As an engineer my beliefs are that the minor problems with American nukes is that each plant was uniquely designed and the computers and control systems were expensive and not anywhere near as reliable as what is available today. Also all the modeling and design verification that can be done today allow for far more accurate and extensive and real simulations. Nuclear power todate has an outstanding record in America. 3 Mile Island was a success in the demonstration of the safety systems to shut down a plant and contain radiation.

As usual i made my point poorly....and understand the idea of tongue in cheek very well ...generally with my foot poised ready to slip into my mouth also...but what i was aiming for was the hypocrisy angle of who's environmental concerns could be dismissed and those that are acceptable.....some seem more "trendy" to get upset about.....
