Idealistic theories aren't a consideration to me either. Predictable real world results are. You've basically said you vote for tariffs even if it harms our economy a bit, so long as it ensures our defense capabilities. That's ok with me, even if I have my doubts that it really DOES boost our defense capabilities to attempt to be self-sufficient in steel. I'm just looking to remind folks that a downside must attend a tariff, and I only hope it won't be as down in the long run as I fear. We are going to have a steel tariff...may the harm be smaller than I fear, as you certainly trust it will be.

It seems you are being a bit insistent on labeling my argument derogatorily as textbook idealistic theory. IMO, that a tariff causes some harm always, is not theory, it is tried and demonstrably true fact- and open minds will see this. Again, may the harm be small as you'd have it, too(I'm sure). Let's win this war.
