The war on drugs stands out as a classic interventionist program favored by conservatives.
Not by this one. It reminds me of Vietnam and the same solution should be applied: Let's declare victory and go home. Mucho dinero spent, many lives ruined, and what we have is a disaster.

Liberals go all mushy whenever social spending is involved, conservatives often toss the idea of fiscal responsibility out the window when military spending comes up.
One legitimate difference is that national defense is a legitimate function of the national gov't. Do private companies use it as a source of corporate welfare? As much as possible.

Do corporations push for gov't spending of any sort that will increase their profits? You bet.

It is sometimes amusing to see how some of the conservatives that run up the flag and salute when a police officer is
killed in the line of duty react when someone suggests that local police ought perhaps to have some input into who is
allowed to own deadly weapons. All of a sudden the same cops that are heroes in another context become agents of
the great Government disarmament conspiracy.

I haven't heard this particular form of the "great Government disarmament conspiracy" advanced.
However, the right to keep and bear arms is guaranteed in the 4th amendment. The Founders had reasons for putting it there. On this we must part company.

Somehow I suspect that you'll manage....
LOL!!! Yeah. I put it on autopilot a while back. Have a good vacation. And Happy Birthday to your son.
