seriously, what are the ramifications of hyperinflation versus massive deflation for the proverbial, indebted american worker?

is the idea for the central bank to prevent both inflation and deflation?

it seems like massive inflation would be good from the standpoint of paying off debts... oh a 500,000 house bought in '99?... a person could theoretically pay it off for the price of a loaf of bread if there were hyperinflation...

massive deflation and the indebted worker loses everything, right?
