I was reading some old investment advice last night cleaning up my office. It reiterated that stocs rise on optimism and news follows. Frankly, I didn't see the early semis turn until the first optimistic cycle thinking was bantered about.. even then I said there's no proof and there's no pricing or demand. Point is, pessimism has wrecked the telco and optical industry to where any optimism counts a hundered fold. Early money is judgeing baseing patterns not news.. its probably time to collect the leaders.

ONIS_ I stay away from stocks that have been announced as in play as most of the potential volatility has been speculated.

Hi Harry, I was thinking that we would get a nice bounce in April like we had last year. But now I am not counting on it. In light of the negative aspect of pro-forma earnings, earnings will pale in comparison to the past. The street is looking for earnings based on GAAP, which will be conservative. If companies paint a rosy earnings picture skeptics will raise questions. Questioning earnings spooks the market. This earnings season will be a non event at best.

Another point to consider is employees of the companies that filed chapter 11 are being required to move their 401K's. This money is moving out of the funds and out of the market. This is contributing to the light volume.

IT job market is very weak in the US -- weaker than any time in the past. I used to get emailed 45 posting a day at one time. I have not had one posting in the last three weeks. It has never been this slow.

While the media is out flying the economic recovery kite - there is not wind to take it up.
