Of course the reasons are complicated. Of course the West isn't faultless. But there's only so much the West can do, and only so much the West can hope to accomplish. Dropping bombs is one example of something the West must do but shouldn't expect to change attitudes. Getting Arafat to renounce terrorism is another.

At least you and I both agree that there is no silver bullet that can slay the spirit of hatred and mistrust that grips the Middle East. Neither bombs nor an Arafat Attitude Adjustment is going to solve the problem alone.
