Robert-- there is not any difference, except scale, on managing a woodlot or forest for different uses. It takes time, replanting, and rotation of the crop. Trees replenish and the rotation begins again. What some dislike is clear-cutting which leaves the landscape ugly for awhile as nearly every tree is removed. I agree it is ugly but even the smaller trees have a use for paper pulp or firewood-- then the next crop matures at the same time. Selective cutting leaves smaller trees (many of which die anyway) and is more expensive to operate. Nearly all cutting, of any scale, is done by medium to large companys. Most of these hold thousands of acres and do not move from one end of the country to another-- by rotateing the crop they stay in business. Rape-- no, but a temporary scare that heals quickly. The tree huggers are meat eaters or would call the killing of their beef murder,,;-] Some just gotta have a 'cause' and are easily led. I have lived & hunted in areas where tree removal goes on constantly. The tree huggers do not speak of the LT bennys of forestry to wildlife either..

Robert, If you think the oceans will provide all of the oxygen this world will ever need, then you are quite short sighted. Does the algae absorb the pollution in the air caused by all the industrial, auto, and others that pollute the air every day?? No, but trees do.

Not all the Earth was covered by ice during the ice age, and there were many trees to be found in many parts of the planet at that time. Archeologists have found many wooden remains from that period. Another thing you seem to have overlooked. What was the population of animals, and humans, on the Earth at that time?? How many pollutants were being sent aloft?? Comparing the ice age to today, is like comparing a planet to a pebble.

BTW, may trees, shrubs, and other plants do not lose their leaves in winter. Do you live in a cave?

I am not a tree hugger, but have sense enough to see that all of our natural resources are being depleted at too high a rate.
