Cheney's main message this morning on the chat shows, other than no "Arafat" meeting, was "don't believe the press" about the Arabs position on Iraq. But, like most of us here, I don't know what to believe.

I completely agree, Win, and started to type such in the original post. Then just decided to let it stand by itself. The problem with the self correction bit is, as you point out, it can be very painful. I'm reading Michael Ignatieff's book on the Kosovo war. And so I'm frequently reminded of just how many lives are lost to political mistakes. Perhaps as many as are lost to political intentions.
