Street cleaning in Huntington Beach is a "cash cow", a real growth industry. The sweepers come by in the morning before a lot of people can move their cars and right behind them the pickups from the city writing tickets at $60 or so. It usually takes 2 trucks to keep up with one sweeper. Business is good. On the other side of the coin is the claim is that run-off from streets is fouling the coastal waters and closing the beaches, creating a lot of bad publicity. It may be true to some extent but some recent studies show high levels of contamination above the population line in mountain streams that empty into the sea.
