Just gotta ask, what kind of crap do you think MS would be cranking out now if they didn't have Apple showing them how to make a usable computer?

That's a fine question. The keyboard would have a credit card strip on it, so instead of logging on you would swipe your card. Then each DOS command would have a cost associated with it, say $.02 for DIR and $.01 for CD.

If a third party wanted to write an app, it would first have to cut a license deal with Microsoft, and pay the monopolist 50% royalties on app sales. Certain API functions would automatically invoke a charge to the user's card.

The bright side would be that, since the Internet would still be text-based on PCs and high-bandwidth never would have taken off, consequencently there would have been no Internet bubble and no ensuing bust and recession.

In other words, Apple brought us the recession.
