The result is I don't think any sort of rational financial settlement can be reached as far as its true societal cost in todays dollars. It would seem to me that a more logical lawsuit would be to sue their own relatives of today for occupying 50% of the jails when the "African American" culture itself only represents 12% of the population. That is a cost that can be measured and quantified!

That would be one offset to reduce the amount of any recovery.

An offset to recoup welfare payments made to the relatives and ancestors of the plaintiffs would be another.

That's just as absurd as a lawsuit to recover damages for something that happened 150 years ago.
