Ali, Re: "If we assume that they ship chips from the area 1800-2200
with 17A standby leakage, the high-speed parts are
probably 4X-5X of that current, or 60-80A."

Are you saying that Intel won't be making any improvements over the current process or design? Look at how FabD improves over FabA. Looks like Intel isn't copying so exactly after all, but maybe that's a good thing.

By the way, you did an outstanding job reading the values for standby current from the left side-bar on that graph. They were nearly invisible for me.

Could you please comment on the slide 28 from this
technology presentation,
intel.com

If we assume that they ship chips from the area 1800-2200
with 17A standby leakage, the high-speed parts are
probably 4X-5X of that current, or 60-80A.

That purpose of that slide is to show that two fabs at different wafer sizes yield P4s with very similar characteristics. Of course, if a substantial amount of active current is included in that so called standby current, then the figure could be misleading. I told you on the other thread that I could only account for perhaps 1-2 amps of device off current in the current 2GHz P4 design based on device count/device width/device type and published device characteristics. Now granted, that may increase 3X or 4X at minimum channel length. But that will still be less than 8A. Sorry.
