Ted, here's another sign that Arafat is becoming more irrelevant in the whole conflict. From the Sydney Morning Herald:

Saddam stokes war with suicide bomber cash

smh.com.au

On the surface, it looks like a prime opportunity for Arafat to publicly tear up the checks (cheques?) and renounce terrorism. But if you think about it, there is no reason why all the money funding the Palestinian terrorist groups must go through Arafat. Even if Arafat were to renounce terrorism, the terrorist groups will still receive funding from a wide variety of Mideast interests, from an Iraqi madman to a Saudi businessman to an Egyptian sympathizer. This is because Arafat, and probably the whole Palestinian struggle, is being used as a pawn in the anti-Western movement of the Middle East.

By the way, Saddam's PR stunt was idiotic, as usual. We'd be blessed if more and more bad guys displayed the same level of intelligence that Saddam just did.
