Enigma, it is men who make the laws and enforce them according to their beliefs and interests.
The Church started that system against women and enforced it for centuries, even though priests have nothing to do with adultery, (that I should know of).
And they probably killed that many ladies because they were not allowed to share "their burden"

If a priest doesn't stand in front of stone throwers, he is responsible just as much as the ladies intifadists, for it is his Mission to prevent barbaric acts, and furthermore, what else should he be doing ?

The Church paved the way for the Muslims. Again, law made by men for men. The Jews had invented other ways to avoid adultery. As they didn't trust women, (and still do not) they worked on men, and were quite smart so that the men do not realize how they have been manipulated into profound monogamy. If interested, I'll post some facts. Not that I agree of course, because as Goerges Brassens used to sing : "Do not stone the adultry lady, I am right behind."

Btw, the Church also treated men engaged in homosexuality like the Muslims do nowadays. 3 men beheaded a couple of months ago in Saudi Arabia, publicly. But the Inquisition people used to torture their victims before killing them, as it was supposed to cure them from sin before death. And it was considered a sound practice to save someone soul at his own expense.
