you need some precious metals training, ArtMan

gold prices go up when all else is in real danger
not a paranoid response, as Feral believes
more like preservation of capital in face of irresponsible leadership
I expect to see both inflation and deflation soon
and gold will thrive in sectors subjected to each climate

a Japanese investor who buys QCOM stock will lose on currency translation
currencies are like a periodic yoyo
thus the move toward gold

gold & silver pay dividends if you own the physical metal
ask Warren Buffet
he bought silver at $4.50 or so in 1998
since then he has lent his silver out repeatedly
like a combo of covered calls and brokerage short lending
his cost is now near $3.00 on the silver purchase
that is 33% on a metal "that doesnt pay a dividend"

for most mere mortals, gold & silver offer something more valuable than a dividend
value beyond a promise and a bubble

wait until gold is back toward 600/oz
and Newmont stock has gone up 450%
while stocks deal with the recession that was delayed
"the recession that never happened" was merely rescheduled for later this year, thanks to Osama
we were all set to slug through a hefty recession in Q3 last year
now goombas actually think we will be spared of recession?
let the govt spending work thru, the puney tax rebates work thru, the $30B in home refi's work thru
heck, that is all that held the economy up recently

what will QCOM do when interest rates rise later this year?
my guess: go down (without a dividend)

what will gold & silver do later this year?
my guess: go up (as inflation is sure to hit on three fronts)

what fronts? money supply working into pipeline
energy costs from neglect of supply chain
imported inflation from trade deficit, sliding dollar

take it easy, just trying to share some alternatives that I find extremely promising for sheep who have been sheared

trends change after long stretches of time
the dollar bull market is close to its end
when it reverses, a nightmare of exposed shipwrecks await us
