SINGAPORE (Reuters) - Singapore's manufacturing output fell in February as expected, dragged down by factory closures for the Lunar New Year, but economists said the economy was still headed for recovery later this year.

"The Singapore recovery is on track...the economy could surprise on the upside," said DBS Bank economist Kaan Quan Hon.

Industrial production dropped 11.3 percent in February from a year earlier, reversing January's 4.3 percent rise, but this was mainly due to fewer working days in the month.

The slide was not surprising as the trade-driven economy already posted a 23.4 percent fall in non-oil domestic exports for February, due to three days of public holidays in the month.

There were fewer working days in February this year compared with 2001 because of the two-day Lunar New Year and one-day Muslim Eid-al-Adha holiday.
