Yes, I think that LU and NT will live through the summer. I can't fathom much of a reason why they wouldn't.

If you think that they both will die this summer, then to me that is just as much (if not more) hyperbole as sylvester was engaging in when he said that telecom would disappear if LU went to $0.

edit: Heck, I don't think that LU is going to go under, period. But I do think that you've got to consider a real risk of bankruptcy in looking at the common.

hanging on to either stock, in the hope that the one that goes belly up first will leave spoils for the other, he is doing a very very risky bet!

I did not say that. I'm long Lucent cause I feel will be one of the main beneficiaries of telecom cap ex pickup when it happens (and I think will start to happen within the next 6 months IMO). But I also believe that they will benefit even more if a few more Marconi's happen (and BTW, that's not to say that's a requirement for my investment reasoning). I also think Lucent has positioned themselves much better than other similar telecoms to be one of the last standing.

Reading more to it than that misses the point on why going long Lucent down here in the $4-6 area, makes sense IMO. I think within the next 2 years, most people would wish they had taken that bet.

JMHO.
