One sign the internet is thriving is the NY Times says its dying.

Charlie, I agree with the Cool-Site-of-the-Day guy. I have found myself less and less satisfied with the internet. I like the fact that I can interface more and more effectively with businesses with which I do business. I just got two notices of stockholder meetings this morning by email and yesterday my car insurance company sent me my policy renewal that way. I have hopes that soon I will have no need of a mailbox.

But I don't find the internet as fun or as informative as it used to be. I am particularly disappointed in search engines. I remember when a typical search produced bunches of links to substantive information from universities and niche experts. Now it's all the same homogenized, commercialized pap. It has become the equivalent of TV. That doesn't mean that the internet is dying. Not at all. But it's going through a phase where it's not as much fun or as informative as it was a few years ago, IMO.

Karen
