That's true, but we really didn't vote on the details. In many/most/all? cases laws are passed and we don't even know they were considering them until after they are in place. I don't remember politicians saying that if you vote for me, I'll ban guns, some, very few, may have, but I don't think they all did. They run on a generalized vague ticket, and people vote for them. Essentially you're hoping/praying that the guy you vote for will do more of the things you like, and less of the things you don't like.
