Options in Dialysis Care

Two types of dialysis are available: hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis. Most people on hemodialysis must travel to a dialysis center three times each week to undergo four-hour dialysis sessions. During hemodialysis, metabolic waste and excess fluid are removed from the blood through a needle inserted into a blood vessel in the arm or leg. In contrast, peritoneal dialysis (PD) enlists the body's own peritoneum -- or abdominal lining -- to filter and remove waste from the blood stream. HomeChoice PRO with PD Link is a peritoneal dialysis system that is compact, portable and can be used at home or while traveling. It administers dialysis therapy while the individual sleeps.

Tony:

I don't know shit about any of this but I can read that this Baxter machine is for the second kind of dialysis. AKYS's machine is for the first kind where patients are required currently to go to a clinic.
