the difference between business and academia is that criticism by itself does not do much. A viable alternative should be presented with sufficient benefit to justify the change.
IMHO, one should realize that any semi-reasonable benchmarking would have a huge advantage over frequency. If intel would offer an alternative then we can talk but until then whatever amd is doing is helping consumer.

What fallacy? Performance increases aren't linear as model numbers increase?

Performance isn't linear as mhz increases, either. And it especially isn't linear when the market has been educated to relate low mhz PIII/Athlon mhz to high mhz from P4.
