John, Re: "You guys really seem distressed that Intel is educating folks on the bogus AMD modelhurtz scheme. What did you expect them to do? Personally, I thought it took them a long time to respond. Intel has a tradition of not publicly acknowledging the competition, so I guess it put them in a difficult position. But now that they've started to debunk quantispeed, I expect they will be relentless. And the end result will probably be permanent damage to the AMD brand."

The AMDroids were clearly expecting Intel to suck it up, but now, Intel has decided to respond, and the resulting backlash has sent the 'Droids into a fit. Now they feel they have to lash out at Intel for ruining AMD's free ride. As usual, it's Intel who is the Evil Corporation. Poor little AMD was only trying to give "good, honest competition".

re: You guys really seem distressed that Intel is educating folks
no we are distressed that intel does anything and everything to prevent folks from been educated :-))
re: The retailers refused to pay extra for the discretionary rated systems,
have you ever wondered why is that intel lost money in US and gained in Asia based on the comparable revenue. Could it be that barret was so eager to win back US retail market that it simply became unprofitable. Amd did very smart thing they left US market to Intel so Intel can rip the rewards of it's strategy. Meanwhile amd shipped the same units with a better than expected margin......
