Elmer, <So why does everybody (except me) think a Hammer 3400+ is such a threat?>

Because the 'Droids are so convinced that AMD's marketing department will be honest and truthful with model numbers.

Elmer,

So why does everybody (except me) think a Hammer 3400+ is such a threat?

If they had been able to keep it quiet and bring it out somewhere near the original schedule, they certainly would have jumped Intel with it. Instead, they apparently felt a need to trump it up as the latest Kryptonite based Intel killer, probably because they saw a death spiral happening to themselves. So, end result, with the year delay, is they ended up telegraphing the whole thing so early, it's like the Rams turning over the playbook and the whole first half's playcalls on offense and defense to the 49ers before the game. I'd hope the 49ers and Intel would win under these circumstances.
