Bell South's Moviles properties in Venzuela, Peru and Chile don't seem to have a problem with lack of GAIT handset. Is that because they aren't loaded as heavily as Cingular so the direct transition to CDMA is easier? Perhaps the briefcase is less empty now for GSM upgrade to 1x but there was still an upgrade path for TDMA using the extra capacity freed up by CDMA on a few channels.

I agree this made roaming on the dual standard difficult for the transition but consider the alternative. A series of data steps that don't seem to be there.
