I have never been able to understand that. Wanting a child with a disability? Hoping they will lack a sense? I am sensitive to the fact that this group of people want to be the way they are, but I will never be able to understand it. I shouldn't say never. But it feels like I will never be able to understand it. Maybe this is one of those "faith" areas that I just don't get.

Hi Karen,

I got offline early last night, just read the article about the parents who wanted to screen in a deaf baby. Amazing to me, but it's within their rights, I suppose. Personally I'd do anything I could to make sure my baby was as healthy and fully-functioning as possible, but I understand there is a deaf culture with a strong sense of identity.

In the country of Canada it pays to have every handicap you can lay your hands, if you are born "status" you have a free ticket for the rest of your life.
