Just two articles: US and Europe's mutual malaise Christian Science Monitor, March 27, 2002 csmonitor.com Honeymoon Is Over in the 'Irritable Alliance' Insight on the News, 04/15/02 insightmag.com I don't believe much can be gained from emphasizing the trans-Atlantic differences. The USA needs Europe and every other ally it can find for "Enduring Freedom", and Europe needs the USA. About the particular events in France: one has to face the fact that even in most Western democracies there is a 10-15% potential of ultra-right citizens, and I guess the USA are not much different.
